Italy Electricity Adapters and Power Converters

Electricity in Italy is 220 volts, 50 cycles alternating current. For the sake of comparison, in the United States it is 110 volts, 60 cycle AC current.

Regardless of the voltage, if your appliance has those flat prongs on it, you will need both a foreign electricity converter and a plug adapter as Italian electricity uses Italian sockets that are designed to accept only round prongs. Do get one before your leave!

As a matter of fact, Italian plugs can be of 2 different sizes. Some of their sockets will take in the plugs with large prongs only, some other sockets will take in the ones with small prongs. This is more common for small appliances. Large prongs are commonly used for appliances that demand a lot of power such as refrigerators and washing machines. And then there are sockets designed to take in any kind of plug.
