You will typically find two different types of foreign electricity converters and adaptors in France. The larger, heavier adaptors are mostly only designed to handle 35 or less watt electrical appliances. This would includes small devices such as shavers or radios.
The lighter, smaller foreign electricity adapters can be used for appliances that have a maximum watt rate of up to 1500. These adapters are for appliances that contain heating elements such as hair dryers and kettles.
Electricity Sockets in France
There are only two types of electrical sockets used in France that you need to consider when buying a converter. All modern, newer construction buildings have three fat prongs, that also include a protruding earth prong. Most of the older buildings in France, however, still operate with wall sockets that only use two prongs.
